From the course catalog:
"A BS with honors in Computational and Applied Mathematics requires an overall GPA of at least 3.0, a GPA in the required courses for the major of at least 3.25, and the completion of an honors paper written under the supervision of a faculty member and approved by the undergraduate adviser for the major. Students planning to complete an honors paper should submit a short proposal to the undergraduate adviser for approval by the Computational and Applied Mathematics board by the end of the student's third year. The proposal must be approved by the board no later than the end of fifth week of the Autumn Quarter of the student's fourth year."
Timeline for writing an honors paper in CAAM:
- Spring of third year:
- Identify a faculty advisor to work with. This faculty advisor does not need to be affilicated with CAM, but should be willing to supervise a research project with significant computational content.
- By email, send a brief description of your project plans to the DUS.
- Summer after third year:
- Start reading in preparation for your research project.
- Autumn of fourth year:
- The bulk of the research will be completed this quarter.
- Winter of fourth year:
- Write the honors paper.
- Spring of fourth year:
- The honors paper must be submitted for approval to the DUS no later than Fifth Week of spring quarter.
