We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of John Reinitz, a distinguished statistician who helped pioneer a data-driven, systems approach to developmental biology that is now widely used today. John died on January 23, 2025. He was 66 years old.
John was a professor in the Departments of Statistics, Ecology and Evolution, Molecular Genetics & Cell Biology, and the College, as well as a member of the Institute of Genomics & Systems Biology and the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics (CCAM). He joined the University of Chicago as part of a systems biology initiative in 2011.
