DEADLINES

Course Registration

New and returning students are required to meet with advisors, register online, and submit advisor-approved registration forms to Jonathan Rodriguez by Friday, September 23, at noon.
Required for: all students

Online Orientation for International Students

New international students must complete the online orientation offered by the Office of International Affairs no later than Monday, September 26. See OIA’s website for details.
Required for: all new international students

In addition, incoming international students are invited to attend an international student orientation hosted by the Office of International Affairs (OIA). This orientation will take place online via Zoom on September 14, 2022 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. This orientation is not required but may be a helpful resource for incoming international students. OIA will cover a variety of topics including a general overview of OIA services, important reminders, information about maintaining status, information about employment for international students, and ways to get involved in the international student community at the University of Chicago. An e-mail was sent to students with zoom information.

Monday, 9/19

Welcome Meeting for Incoming PhD Students– Meet Student Affairs Administrator, Jonathan Rodriguez, CCAM Director, Mary Silber, some of the CAM faculty and current CAM PhD students.

Breakfast

Followed by an overview of the program.

Campus Tour and Lunch with Current PhD Students (Phillip Lo, & Yifan Peng)
Time: 12:00pm
Location: Meet in Jones Lobby (5747 S. Ellis Ave.)

Library Resources Information Session - Jennifer Hart, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science Librarian, will give an overview of library services and resources available to all students.
Time: 3:00pm-3:30pm

Tuesday, 9/20

PSD Welcome & Orientation - Students will have the opportunity to meet the Dean of Students Office staff and other faculty and staff from the division.
Time: 9:00am-10:00am

This event is not required, but attendance is encouraged.

Orientation Graduate Student Orientation for UChicago – Incoming students are invited to join their classmates for a processional to the Welcome Convocation, featuring distinguished faculty speakers and a welcome from Graduate Council and UChicagoGrad.
Time: 11:30am-3:30pm

Wednesday, 9/21

IT Informational Session – Ed Friedman, John Zekos, and Mitzi Nakatsuka will explain computational resources in Computation and Applied Mathematics and across campus. Required for: all new CAM Students.
Time: 12:00pm-12:45pm
Location: Eckhart 133 (1118-32 E. 58th St.)

Successful Collaboration and Overview of UChicago GRAD A discussion on collaboration within CCAM programs led by CAM faculty and staff.  Nathan Hardy and Amy Rapp from the UChicago GRAD office will then give an overview of career and other resources available to all students.
Time: 1:30pm

Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC) Tea Time - TTIC welcomes new CAM and TTIC students and will provide an overview of some of the research being done at TTIC.
Time: 3:00pm

Thursday, 9/22

(No orientation activities scheduled. Students may want to use this day to meet with advisors for registration, due Friday at noon.)

Friday, 9/23

Faculty Lunch with PhD Students – Faculty will have lunch with Incoming Students
Time: 12:00pm
Location: Quadrangle Club (1155 E. 57th St.); a group will walk over from Jones at 11:50 from Prof. Silber’s office (Jones 116A)

Fire Safety Training – TTIC, Ian Hoppie, Laboratory Safety Specialist, will give a fire safety training presentation.
