Course Registration

New and returning students are required to meet with advisors, register online, and turn in advisor-approved paper registration forms to Zellencia Harris in Jones 116B by Friday, September 27, at noon.

Required for: all students

Online Orientation for International Students

New international students must complete the online orientation offered by the Office of International Affairs no later than Monday, September 30. See OIA’s website for details.

Required for: all new international students

Monday, 9/23

*Orientation Breakfast for Incoming PhD Students

Meet with faculty directors, staff and current students in Computational and Applied Mathematics for introductions, an overview of the program, and a brief tour.

Time: 10am – 11am

Location – Jones 111

*IT Information Session (Joint session with Statistics)

Ed Friedman, John Zekos, and Mitzi Nakatsuka will explain computational resources in the Department of the Statistics and across campus.

Time: 12-12:45pm

Location: Kent 120

*Campus Tour

Current CAM PhD students Justin Finkel and Solomon Quinn will lead the cohort on a walking tour of campus.

Time: 1pm – 2pm

Tuesday, 9/24

PSD Welcome & Orientation

Physical Sciences Division Dean of Students Office will host new PSD students for breakfast and sessions from several different offices including Financial Wellness, Office of International Student Affairs, and Student Health and Counseling Services.  Afterwards, students will be led to the UChicago GRAD Student orientation.

Location: International House Assembly Hall (1414 E. 59th St. Chicago IL, 60637)

Check-in and breakfast: 8am—9am

Orientation Sessions: 9am-10:45am

Escort to UChicago Grad Orientation: 10:45am-11:10am

*Graduate Student Orientation (Required for all new graduate students) - UChicago GRAD will host grad students from across campus in an opening procession, a welcoming convocation, lunch, an information fair, and a social. Click here for full schedule, locations, and registration (required).

Wednesday, 9/25

*Successful Collaboration and Overview of UChicago GRAD (Joint session with MCAM)

A discussion on collaboration within CCAM programs and an overview of resources available through UChicago GRAD, including career resources.  Required for all new CAM students.

Time: 10am – 11am

Location – Ryerson 358

*Library Resources Information Session - Jennifer Hart, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science Librarian, will give an overview of library services and resources available to all students.

Time: 11am-12pm

Location: Ryerson 358

Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC) Student Body Meeting And Mix and Mingle  TTIC Faculty will give a welcome and introduction to CAM students and new TTIC students. Students will get a brief overview of some of the research currently being done at TTIC and ways they can attend events or be involved or join academic activity through the year.

Thursday, 9/26

New Student and Faculty Reception

Join CAM as we welcome new PhD students and faculty. CAM Faculty, PhD students, and staff are invited!

*Fire Safety Training (Joint Session with Statistics) - Kimberly Mormann, Laboratory Safety Specialist, will give a fire safety training presentation.
